Dr. C. Kezi Selva Vijila was born to Mr. A.Chelliah and Mrs. T. Vimala, at Thazhakkanvilai, a one-horse village in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. She had her college education in Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. Vijila has been a topper right from her school days. The prizes she has won speak volumes of her academic excellence. After obtaining her B.E degree in ECE in 1994, she joined The Indian College of Engineering as Lecturer. After nigh two years of meritorious service there, she returned to her alma mater as Lecturer in the department of ECE. It was during her heyday in Karunya that she got her ME degree with distinction and her Ph.D. degree from Anna University Chennai under the guidance of Prof. P. Kanagasabapathy, a distinguished academician. Since then there has been no looking back. Dr.Vijila quickly rose through the ranks to become the Professor. Later she was handpicked by the Chancellor of Karunya University to head the ECE department, which she did with elan. Under her, the department won the Best Department Award continuously for three years, from 2008 till her departure from Karunya in 2010.
Dr. Vijila assumed the Principalship of Christian College of Engineering and Technology on the 4th of June 2010. Her areas of interest are Adaptive signal processing, Image processing, Softcomputing and Computer Communication. She is credited with organising Conferences/Workshops/Symposiums etc aplenty during her illustrious career. In the year 2008, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) invited her and two of her students to attend its annual conference in Atlanta, USA.
Dr. Vijila has a passel of publications under her belt. Her publications in National and International journals have received wide acclaim. She has presented more than 100 papers in reputed journals and conferences, and has guided more than 30 UG and 20 PG projects. She has produced 8 Ph.Ds within a short span and currently, she is guiding research scholars. She has received a grant from the AICTE for the Modernisation of VLSI Design lab. Professional Societies like Indian Society of Technical Education, Computer Society of India have enrolled her as members. The high point in her career came when The Indian Solidarity Council, in recognition of her services to the cause of technical education, honoured her with the Jewel of India award which she received from Dr.Samuel K. Mbambo, the Namibian Ambassador to India on the 23rd of November 2010. On the same occasion, The Indian Institute of Education and Management conferred on her its prestigious “National Mahila Rattan Gold Medal Award.” She is also the proud recipient of the Rashtriya Vidya Samman Puraskar Award. In January 2011, she received the young women scientist award from the Government of Tamil Nadu for her pioneering work in the field of Engineering and Technology. She is also the recipient of the Best Academic Researcher Award given by the Association of Scientists, Developer & Faculties, Pondichery, Outstanding Women Educator Award, Outstanding Researcher & Scholar Icon and The Best Principal Award. Recently she was given The Best Academic Administrator award from the Venus International Foundation, Chennai.
